Change Afoot

Five Essential Songs

“Wait So Long”

Easily the band’s best-known song, this rowdy foot stomper from the 2010 breakout album “Palomino” is still a singalong favorite at Trampled by Turtles live shows.

“Alone”

This moving ballad from the band’s 2012 album “Stars and Satellites” is a slow-burning meditation on the passing of time between life and death that builds to a revelatory peak via inspiring harmonies.

“Whiskey”

A deep-cut drinking song from Trampled’s 2004 debut album “Songs from a Ghost Town,” “Whiskey” features sprightly plucked minor chords that guide Simonett’s lyrics about drowning his sorrows in a dark bar.

“Are You Behind the Shining Star?”

Dynamics of a struggling relationship are embedded in a sunny pop tune in this standout from the 2014 record “Wild Animals,” which was produced by Alan Sparhawk of Low.

“It’s So Hard to Hold On”

The lead track from the new album “Alpenglow” has a somber melody that accentuates the ache in Simonett’s voice, but the song channels some uplifting joy through the band’s collective acoustic picking and a call to treasure good times while they’re happening.
